I love creating elegant stylish homeware to be treasured for years to come! My beautiful designs, inspired by nature, create a stylish, calm and welcoming feel to your home.
For me the kitchen is the heart of the home, a sanctuary from the chaos and stress of everyday life, and most importantly a place of nurture, love and kindness.
My Proudest Moment!
I was so proud of myself when I got my first design job. I remember filling out a form and writing my occupation down as designer. I felt wonderful! It had taken me a long time to get to this point. I was 33 years old!
Growing up, my survival mechanism was to please everyone but me. I didn't know what I liked or didn't like. I even spelt my own name differently for different people! I lost myself completely and it took a lot of finding. I had been taught to put everyone else first over my needs. I wasn’t encouraged to do art at school even though my Dad was a graphic designer!
When I left school I had no idea what to do, no idea what I was good at. My best friend said she was going to have a gap year and go and work in a ski resort. I thought this sounded fun and it was the start of my travelling on and off for the next 9 years. I loved travelling, I was able to be myself. The sense of freedom I had was amazing! It was a special time, I met amazing people and saw amazing things.
It wasn’t until I’d created this space for myself that I could work out what I wanted to do and that was be creative.
So I went to art college at the age of 30 and did a degree in graphic design at Nottingham Trent University. My first job as a designer was for a Greetings card company. It was a really good training for me and I loved it. Then as my confidence grew as a designer and a person, (with the help of a lot of counselling), I realised I wanted to design homeware.
I love being in my kitchen, for me it really is the heart of the home, so kitchen textiles were what I wanted to design. I tried and tried to get a job and just couldn’t, I felt very pigeon holed as a Greetings card designer.
So I thought, right I’ll just do it myself, how hard can it be! Turns out, it very hard! But also, very rewarding and I love the challenges presented to me learning how to run a business.
My brand Chez Beccy, meaning Beccy’s home or Beccy's place is all about inviting customers to join me in my world. To find a sanctuary from the chaos and stress of everyday life, and most importantly a place of nurture, love and kindness.
Then two years ago, my Mum was really ill and spent 8 weeks in intensive care. It was a very difficult time and I was absolutely blow away by how kind everyone at the hospital was to me. The doctors, nurses receptionists, everyone. I thought, wow, this is how I want to be. This is the kind of world I want to live in. So I continue to aspire to be as kind as I can.
I manufacture all my products in the UK, using the best materials. I use natural fabrics, half panama cotton and linen union. My fabrics are printed digitally which creates less waste than other forms of fabric printing.
