The question I am asking myself at the moment is... How can I bring more joy into my life?
So the first question is...what is joy? Joy is about feeling good in the moment.
Designer and writer Ingrid Fetell Lee defines it really well...
"When psychologists use the word joy, what they mean is an intense momentary experience of positive emotion. One that makes us smile and laugh and feel like we want to jump up and down."
(You can listen to a great Ted talk HERE about joy, I recommend it.)
Then the next question I'm asking myself is... What brings me joy? Laughing with friends, walking out in the sunshine, eat great food, cooking great food to have with my friends, getting cosy and curling up with a good book...
Ingrid Fetell Lee notes in her talk that society almost frowns upon adults showing joy outwardly. It can often be dismissed as childish and self indulgent, so we can hold ourselves back from showing our joy. Our environment can reflect this lack of joy back to us as grey monotone and uninspiring towns and cities.
And research shows in schools and work places that are more colourful people friendlier, more confident and feel safer.
Colour is a sign of life and energy.
Each moment of joy in itself is small but over time these add up to more than the sum of their parts.
So my mission is to bring more joyful moments into my life by doing the things that bring me joy.
Also...What am I not doing that I think would bring me joy? For me this is dancing. I love dancing and I don't do it. The story in my head is, I don't have time. And I know this isn't true. I actually came across a 15 minute dance work out online. I could do that couldn't I?
How can you bring more joy into your life?
What brings you joy?
How can you do more of these things?
What are you not doing that you would really like to do?😄
