💕 About Chez Beccy

Baking, Designing & Bringing People Together

Jam or cream first?
That’s the question I’m asked most often when I do a scone baking demonstration. (The second? Whether it’s scone or scone!) These light-hearted debates always open up something deeper—our love for British food traditions, and how much joy they bring to our everyday lives.

I’m Beccy, founder of Chez Beccy—a homegrown lifestyle brand inspired by my love of baking, beautiful design, and the timeless pleasure of gathering around the kitchen table.

🍰 A Love of Food, Family & Connection

We have an amazing food culture here in the UK—even if the French don’t always agree! From Christmas to Easter, Mother’s Day to birthdays, our most joyful celebrations revolve around food. But have you noticed how fewer people are cooking from scratch these days?

We’re slowly losing the art of seasonal, home-cooked food. When you can buy strawberries in December and asparagus in October, it’s easy to forget what’s truly in season. But cooking doesn’t have to be complicated—or expensive. A simple homemade soup or an easy sponge cake made with love can be just as special (and far more nourishing!) than anything shop-bought.

🧁 My Baking Journey

I’m not a trained chef—I just love eating! And I adore being in my kitchen. It’s my happy place, where something delicious is usually baking in the oven, or where I’m sitting with a friend and a pot of tea.

My love of baking began with a “Grand Cake Tour of Europe”—otherwise known as Interrailing after school! My best friend and I travelled across the continent, tasting cakes and pastries made with real cream, butter, and seasonal fruit. It was a world away from the bright pink icing of English bakeries in the 1980s.

I even picked up my first baking book on that trip, in a little bookshop in Germany. It sparked a lifelong passion for baking—and a belief that simple food, made well, brings people together.

🎨 From Flour to Fabric: How Chez Beccy Began

Chez Beccy started about ten years ago, when we moved to our home in Bampton, Oxfordshire. I wanted to create something beautiful and practical—something that reflected my love of home, food, and connection.

I began designing my own range of handmade kitchen textiles: tea towels, aprons, and oven gloves, all illustrated and digitally finished by me, and made in the UK from 100% half Panama cotton. My designs are inspired by the natural world and the comfort of the kitchen table—a place to slow down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

And in recent years, baking has become just as much a part of Chez Beccy as my textiles. I now host baking demonstrations, afternoon tea events, and even wrote a book: A Guide to Hosting Afternoon Tea, filled with easy, seasonal recipes to help others create those joyful kitchen moments for themselves.

🌸 Why I Do What I Do

Chez Beccy is about more than just pretty things for your kitchen—it’s about celebrating the joy of togetherness, the value of homemade food, and the importance of slowing down in a fast-paced world.

Whether it’s a beautifully illustrated tea towel, a perfectly light and fluffy homemade scone, or a baking demo that sparks inspiration, I hope everything I create helps you feel more connected—to your kitchen, your loved ones, and yourself.
